Dreaming of a Disney Christmas

Experience the Magic of the Holiday Season- Disney Style.

Dreaming of a Disney Christmas

Walking through Disneyland during the Holidays feels like stepping into a Hallmark Christmas movie that somehow still feels undeniably Disney. Holiday music drifts through the park as garlands, wreaths, ornaments, and thousands of twinkling lights transform the familiar streets and attractions around you. The smell of seasonal treats mixes with the sweetness already floating from the shops along Main Street, while characters appear in their holiday best and little Christmas details seem to be tucked into every corner. As evening settles in, the experience changes again—the lights become brighter, Sleeping Beauty’s Castle begins to sparkle, and the whole park takes on a warm holiday glow. There is so much happening around you that you just may take a moment to slow down, look around, and simply enjoy the company of your loved ones.

Disneyland is known worldwide for creating an atmosphere that delights the senses and sparks the imagination. Each land is carefully crafted with its own unique style of music, architecture, food, and personality, yet they are all unified by that familiar Disney magic. And Christmas time is no exception. Disneyland Park offers the traditional, storybook side of Christmas, while Disney California Adventure brings in food and holiday traditions from around the world. Cars Land creates its own wonderfully quirky version of Christmas. Even outside the parks, the celebration continues uninterrupted throughout the hotels and Downtown Disney

For 2026, Holidays at the Disneyland Resort runs November 13, 2026 through January 6, 2027, giving families nearly two months to experience it.

Main Street

The Disney Holiday Spirit can be felt as soon as you enter the park. Town Square is home to a 60-foot Christmas tree, surrounded by decorations that continue through Main Street, U.S.A. Garlands, ornaments and holiday decor cover the storefronts, while Christmas music rings in the background. It is excitement, nostalgia, and magic all rolled into one unforgettable Disney experience.

During the day, it's a beautiful backdrop for family pictures and an excellent rest stop to sit, take in the beautiful atmosphere, and enjoy a treat via the Jolly Holiday Cafe.

At night, the storefronts and decorations glow, the tree lights up, and at the opposite end of Main Street you'll see one of the biggest transformations of the season. Be sure to take some time to visit the abundant variety of gift shops and boutiques stores, especially Plaza Point, Disneyland’s year-round holiday shop. Located on the corner of Mainstreet, U.S.A. & East Plaza Street, this Victorian-themed boutique is run by the fictional Miss Evelyn Toror, who travels the world in search of holiday treasures. There, you can explore an extensive collection of Disney holiday-themed souvenirs, including custom hand painted ornaments, a Christmas memento that will be treasured for years to come.

Sleeping Beauty's Winter Castle

During the holidays, Sleeping Beauty’s Castle is transformed into Sleeping Beauty's Winter Castle. Approximately 80,000 shimmering lights create a breathtakingly magical winter scene. This is an experience that, in my opinion, simply cannot be skipped. If you're traveling with younger children and aren't certain they'll make it through a very late evening, this is one of the nighttime experiences I'd prioritize.

Favorite Disney Attractions Deck the Halls

Disneyland doesn't simply put Christmas decorations around its attractions. A few attractions actually change for the season, and one of the biggest transformations happens at an attraction some might otherwise overlook.

For “It's a Small World” Holiday, the classic attraction is redecorated to incorporate holiday celebrations from around the world. Inside, the attraction's famous (some may say infamous) song is blended with traditional holiday music while the scenes are filled with seasonal decorations representing different cultures around the world. On the exterior, thousands of lights cover the attraction's enormous façade, and after dark Disney adds projection displays throughout the evening.

The other major seasonal overlay actually begins during Halloween. Haunted Mansion Holiday combines the Haunted Mansion with Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas, bringing Jack Skellington, Sally, Oogie Boogie and Halloween Town into the attraction. The overlay continues through the Christmas season.

Cruising on over into California Adventure Park, Radiator Springs has its own interpretation of Christmas. Cars Land is decorated with lights, wreaths, bows and holiday decor inspired by the automotive world of Cars. Mater's Junkyard Jamboree becomes Mater's Jingle Jamboree, while Luigi's Rollickin' Roadsters becomes Luigi's Joy to the Whirl.

Radiator Springs is known for the moment its neon signs begin illuminating as daylight disappears. During the Christmas season, all of those holiday decorations become part of the nighttime scene too. Definitely a must see after dark attraction.

Festival of Holidays Brings Different Traditions Together

One of the most notable differences between the Christmas experiences in the two parks is that Disneyland Park leans heavily into the classic Christmas imagery, while Disney California Adventure expands the celebration, allowing visitors a chance to explore different holiday traditions and cultures through its Festival of Holidays. The festival incorporates food, live entertainment, music, characters and other attractions to celebrate the holidays. This is an opportunity for your children to broaden their horizons while celebrating the holidays in a spirit of unity.

Disney ¡Viva Navidad!

Another celebration during the season is Disney ¡Viva Navidad!, which highlights Latin American holiday traditions through music, dancing, decorations and Disney characters. On Saturdays and Sundays, the celebration includes a street party with live music and appearances by Donald Duck, José Carioca and Panchito.

Haley’s Tip: Because some entertainment is tied to particular days and schedules, it is definitely worth taking some time to check the Disneyland app rather than assuming everything happens continuously. If there's a performance your family really wants to see, find its times early in the day and plan around it.

A Christmas Fantasy Parade Down Main Street

For families who love Disney entertainment, A Christmas Fantasy Parade is one of the major holiday offerings. The parade features Mickey, Minnie, Disney Princesses, Frozen characters, toy soldiers, gingerbread cookies, reindeer and other Disney characters, with Santa Claus appearing in the finale. Main Street is probably the most popular place to watch it, especially with all the Christmas decor surrounding you.

Haley’s Tip: There are additional viewing areas along the parade route, including near “it's a small world” Holiday. If seeing the parade is high on your family's list, I'd rather choose a viewing area intentionally than discover five minutes before it begins that everyone else had the same idea. Treat it as an opportunity to sit and take in the magic.
